Ask a Millennial! Are we killing top sheets?

Hey everybody! Unfortunately, as you may have noticed, there was no Weekend Update this week. The reason being is because on the day I was going to type it up (being Monday), our power went out! And it was already Tuesday when the power came back on, so yeah. 😦 But there will be one next weekend for sure! πŸ˜€

But today’s post is my blog series called, “Ask a Millennial!” In this blog series, I talk about everything millennials like myself like, dislike, and what industries and stuff we may or may not be “killing”. πŸ˜› LetsΒ get started!

One of my awesome readers suggested I review this article at some time for this blog series, so I would like to thank that reader for their contribution to help me keep this blog series up and running! πŸ˜€ So the question is: Are millinnials killing top sheets? If you ever asked me taht question before I knew what a top sheet was, I would have been like, “Whaaaaat? D: “ Like, unless you explain what those things are to a lot of us millennials, we probably won’t know what you are talking about unless we are very familiar with them. So for my similar aged readers, I will explain what a top sheet is. A top is that flat sheet you put on your bed that goes over the main sheet that goes under your matress and you sleep under the top sheet along with your blankets on top of the top sheet. A top sheet basically keeps your blankets from getting all smelly and gross from our fleshy human bodies. πŸ˜› Simple, right? πŸ™‚

So… do I use a top sheet? Yes I do, but honestly, it’s not really a big deal to me. *shrug* And I will tell you why…

So here is a picture of my humble bed:

bed

Yeeeeees… As you can see, I honestly just make my bed up so everything in basically fitted just enough, like the sheets, so it will not come undone and will not look too messy. And that light brown sheet in front of my bed under all of the blankets? Well, that’sΒ the top sheet. πŸ˜› Notice how I do not tuck it under my mattress. That’s because I’m a lazy millennial whose bed never sees other human eyes besides LOCMom’s and mine, so I have no other people to impress really. *shrugs* Don’t have a significant other yet, so there is no one to really care all that much how my bed is made besides myself. πŸ˜›

Also, the reason I really don’t care about having a top sheet in general is because those blankets on my bed are basically 100% polyester. Meaning, they are completely washable and if they do get all sweaty and gross from my fleshy body, I can just put them in the washing machine and clean them. πŸ˜› I’ve got to be honest though, they haven’t been washed in a while, but as it heats up weather wise, I will probably have to start putting them all away and just using only one of them to sleep with. But I loooove being perfectly warm at night at theΒ right temperature, so I hope these cool nights will last a little longer! πŸ˜€

But I do agree that everyone should make their bed before you have to go to sleep in your bed each night! You don’t have to do it right away after you wake up, but it just feels better when you get ready to go to bed and your bed is already made and ready to go for the night. πŸ™‚

So yeah… That is what I think of top sheets. πŸ™‚ In all honesty, since a lot of millennials like myself don’t have a lot of money in the first place and can’t afford to buy a house right now or maybe even never in some cases :(, I honestly think they are not even on our radar of things to buy. Plus they are so damn expensive for a good top sheet let alone a good 100% cotton sheet pack that probably includes one in it. 😦 I even look at sheet prices at TJMAXX and I’m like, “That’s a lot of money, ya’ll. How can I afford something like this? 😦 “ That’ why if I ever had own place, I would be looking in sheet sections in thrift stores for 100% cotton sheets since they are cheaper in thrift stores. I know, I know… Bedbugs, Ms. LOC! Bedbugs! But I would only look for sheets at fancypants thrift stores instead of say, Goodwill. In the past, I have worked at a Goodwill drop-off location for their job training program and you wouldn’t believe how many people use those places like their personal trashcan. 😦 And worse, we had to dig through the trashy bags that they donated to us just to get stuff out of them just to sell at Goodwill. So yeah… I wouldn’t go buying sheets from Goodwill unless you absolutely HAVE TO and know that there are no bed bugs on the sheet, or sheets, you will be buying from Goodwill. Just saying. o _o So.. Buy at your own risk. πŸ˜›

So… Top sheet or naw? For me, it really doesn’t matter. I have no one to impress in my life yet with fancy sheets I could buy and LOCMom has plenty of sheets for our home, but it’s always an extra bnous to put something on my bed that will make me not have to wash my 100% polyester blankets so much! Woot woot for that! πŸ˜€

How do you feel about top sheets?

  1. Interesting post. I’m not a Millennial, but I hate top sheets! Instead of blankets, I use a comforter, and I have several comforter covers. If you are not familiar with these, they are like a huge pillowcase for your comforter, usually with a button or snap closure at the bottom. So you can just wash the cover instead of the comforter. They are also known as duvet covers.

I usually buy mine at the thrift store (I can get them for $10, instead of the $70 to $250+ they cost new). Some people think it’s gross to buy used bed linens, but I check prospective items over carefully. When I get home, I wash them in hot water and dry them. (Think about it, if you stay in a hotel, you are going to be sleeping in used bed linens anyway…is that gross?)

In any case, I’ve been able to find some really expensive linens for around $10. Score!

    1. I have heard of duvet covers! πŸ˜€ I must look into one for my polyester blankets instead of using a top sheet for them. It would definitely keep things cleaner. ^ _^

Yes, thrifting for sheets is where it is at! I agree! Maybe I will even try the sheets at Goodwill. xD But LOCMom doesn’t like used sheets and we don’t really need any right now, so we’re good for the moment. πŸ™‚ It’s awesome that you score such great quality sheets for less though! πŸ˜€
