Hey everybody! Today on this very special blog post has to deal with most millennial food ever: avocado toast! Yes, we millennials love our avocado toast. Of course, it tastes more delicious and costs less if you make it yourself! And boy, does it never fail to taste good when I make it!
But I find that if avocado is just served by itself on toast without any seasoning on it, it tastes awful. I mean, flavorless awful. So what is the secret to great tasting avocado on toast! Why, turning into guacamole of course! 😀 I mean, everyone loves gaucamole. 🙂 It’s good on chips, tacos, and also on toast! Today, I will be sharing my avocado toast recipe that is not only good, but is healthy for you!
Let’s get started!
First, you will need a piece of sliced bread. It can be any kind of sliced bread as long as it fits into your toaster. For making this recipe healthy, I HIGHLY recommend using organic whole wheat bread! Why organic, you ask? Well, because organic bread I find doesn’t have those extra crappy ingredients that “regular bread” has that may make it not so great to eat every day. Organic bread is just pretty basic even though most organic breads have added sugars in them. Probably to extend their shelf life. Regular bread probably has added sugar too, but with other extra ingredients that make up the bread that are not even necessary. : / With healthy foods, I always buy regular produce, nuts, whole milk, eggs, and such, but never skimp on the bread! Always organic bread in this millennial’s life! 🙂
Anyway… so you got your slice of bread now. This is the first step to this avocado toast recipe that will make it a success! 🙂
Next is the avocado! Now before you start cutting into this avocado, there is a certain way that I cut it that is a much safer way to “dissect” an avocado. I learned of this way from a commenter on the website, Jezebel, after receiving “avocado hand” from a knife when cutting up an avocado. What is funny about the whole avocado hand thing is that before the day that that “avocado hand” thing came out in the news was the day I got avocado hand. Talk about weirdly timely, haha. 😛
Anyway, let me explain!
First thing you always do before getting an avocado is getting a cutting board to cut the avocado with. No holding it in your hand and cutting the avocado up! That is the best way to get “avocado hand”! ALWAYS use a cutting board when cutting avocados and other fruits and veggies! Having a sharp knife helps as well because dull knifes will cut you deeply if they are used incorrectly. So folks, always keep your knives sharp! Also, ALWAYS be sure your avocado is “ripe” before attempting to cut into it. Ripe avocados with be kind of squishy around the center of them or really squishy around the center of them if they are really ripe, but I do not recommend a really ripe avocado for this recipe since when making guacamole, texture is always important. If you use a really ripe avocado when making guac for this recipe, the gaucamole will be quite creamy which I don’t really like, to be honest. But if you like creamy guacamole, then go for it and use a really ripe avocado! 🙂
Next remove the sticker on the avocado. I know everyone always thinks, “Well with my little ol’ sharp knife, I can cut right through this sticker!” until they can’t. I find that the sticker on the avocado is always hard to cut through and not worth the extra time to try cutting through. Heck, it may lead to avocado handville, so always remove it before cutting your avocado!
Now, we’re ready to cut the avocado! 🙂 First, cut the avocado in half around the center. You should have two halves now. Then, take the avocado slice with the seed in it and cut around the center of it again on the outside of it making sure your fingers are not in the way. And wala! You should now have two halves, or quaters, of that half of avocado now! At this time, it is now safe to pull out the seed. Notice you didn’t have to use your knife for this task? A miracle, I say! 🙂 Then with your knife, cut the other half of avocado in half and you should now have four halfs, or quaters, of your avocado now. Next, take the tip of the skin from each avocado and pull it off! It should be really easy to do this next step because the skin should peel right off. Sometimes when beginning to do this last step, the skin is kind of stubborn, but it should come off. And TADAH! Perfectly peeled avacado waiting to be become gauc! 😀
Now we need our spices! Here s what I use at home:
All necessary to make perfect guacamole! But the real secret to this recipe is this stuff:
McCormick Perfect Pinch Mexican Seasoning! This is how I achieve the Mexican flavor in my guacamole! This stuff makes this recipe taste good! 🙂
And now that we have our ingredients, we shall begin!
First, we’ll put the toast in the toaster so it can start toasting while we make our guac!
To make the guac, put your avocado quarters into a small bowl!
Then we add our spices! In no particular order, we will add the cumin, Perfect Pinch Mexican Seasoning, garlic salt, salt, and pepper to our avocado! But the trick to this step is to not pour in these ingredients into our bowl of avocado, but to lightly “dust” them on one side of the avocado in the bowl to the other side like so:
Do this pattern of dusting about 2-4 times depending on the size of the avocado. I will have instructions below this post you can print out that will explain how many times you should dust each ingredient over the avocado. 🙂
In the end, the ingredients should look something like this:
Now, we are ready to mash it with a fork! Get a stainless steel fork that is a dinner fork and start mashing your avocado! Avocado mashing tip 431: When mashing an avocado into guacamole, target the outside of the avocado halves since that is where they mash the easiest. 🙂 When you are done, the avocado should be made into gaucamole!
Something like this:
At this time when you have made your avocado into guacamole, with a small hand silicone whisk or spoon, mix up your guacamole so all of the seasoning will be mixed into your guac. After this, be sure to taste test your gaucamole to see if it needs a little something. 🙂 If it doesn’t, your guac is a success!
Now, your toast should have popped up by now, so now is the time to plate it! But what I fond that gives the toast more flavor is to add butter on your toast at first, then load it up with guacamole. Gives it that extra zing! 🙂 After adding the butter, with the small hand silicone whisk, put your guacamole on your toast. If you have extra gaucamole, that is fine. You can either eat it after your avocado toast or chuck it out. Your choice. 🙂
Now sometimes, when I want an extra blast of protein on my avocado toast to make it even more healthy, I add a scrambled egg on top of the avocado with salt and pepper! Really good I must say! You can also add bacon or tomatoes as well to give it an extra zip too! Or you can add all three to make it a superfood meal! ❤ I have never done this, but it must be good, haha. 🙂
After adding the avocado to it, your toast should look like this:

Ms. Living on Cent’s Avocado Toast
- Organic Whole Wheat Bread Slice or Regular Bread Slice
- McCormick Perfect Pinch Mexican Seasoning
- Garlic Salt
- 1 Ripe Avocado
1. Cut a ripe avocado in half down the center using a cutting board. Then, cut the avocado half with the seed in it down the center of the outside of it making it into two quarters. Pull out seed with hand. Cut other half of avocado with a knife into quarters as well. On each quarter, peel off skin and then discard. Put avocado quaters in a small bowl and set aside.
2. Get organic whole wheat bread slice or any kind if bread slice and put it in toaster to toast.
3. While bread is toasting, with your small bowl of avocado quarters, put in cumin, garlic salt, pepper, salt, and McCormick Perfect Pinch Mexican Seasoning “dusting” each ingredient over one side of the bowl to the other.
The amount of “dusting” of each ingredient depends on the size of the avocado you are using. Here are my recommendations:
- Cumin (3-4 times of dusting depending on the size of the avocado)
- Salt (depending on how much salt comes out of the salt shaker or mill you are using, 2-3 dustings. Trust your best judgement.)
- Pepper (depending on how much pepper comes out of the pepper shaker or mill you are using, 2-3 dustings)
- Garlic Salt (1-2 dustings)
- McCormick Perfect Pinch Mexican Seasoning (2-3 dustings recommended, but 4 dustings if you have a bigger avocado.Trust your best judgement.)
4. Using dinner fork, mash avocado quarters into guacamole. To mash avocado quaters easier, mash the outside of the avocado quaters. Then with a small silicone hand whisk, stir in seasoning that did not get mixed in with the avocado quaters. Taste test gaucamole to see if it is to your liking. If not, add needed seasoning to it until it tastes to your desire.
5. When bread slice is done toasting, carefully remove it from your toaster and plate it. Then, put butter on it and then with small silicone hand whisk, spread guacamole onto toast. If you would like, you can then add cooked eggs, bacon, or tomato on it afterword for an extra healthy kick!
6. Eat and enjoy!
